Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Student-Led Programme pre‑launch at the West Midlands Cyber Hub, and I’m still buzzing from the energy in the room.
As a late career changer, I went along to support the initiative, but I left feeling inspired, hopeful, and genuinely excited about what’s coming next for cyber talent in the Midlands.
This wasn’t just an event. It was a glimpse into the future.
This Pre‑Launch That Already Feels Like a Movement.
It brought together students, early‑career professionals, mentors, and community members who are all passionate about building something meaningful.
The conversations were flowing, ideas were bouncing around the room, and the sense of collaboration was unmistakable.
The upcoming Student-Led Programme, officially launching in September, is designed to empower students to:
Lead workshops
Build confidence
Develop real-world skills
Connect directly with industry
Shape the future of the Cyber Hub community
And the best part? It’s being built by students, for students with full support from the Cyber Hub and the West Midlands Cyber Cluster.
One thing I love about the Cyber Hub is how people show up for each other.
Yesterday was no exception.
Students showed up.
Professionals showed up.
Career changers showed up.
Mentors showed up.
Everyone contributed to the atmosphere and everyone left feeling part of something bigger.
This is what makes the Cyber Hub special… It’s not just a space. It’s a community.
Lets face it.
Cybersecurity is evolving fast, and the Midlands is becoming a genuine hotspot for talent, innovation, and collaboration.
The Student-Led Programme is going to accelerate that growth by:
Giving students leadership opportunities
Creating peer-driven learning
Building confidence through hands-on experience
Strengthening the regional talent pipeline
Making cyber accessible to everyone
As someone who entered tech later in life, I can’t emphasise enough how valuable spaces like this are.
They make you feel welcome. They make you feel capable.
They make you feel like you belong.
The official launch is coming next month and if the pre-launch was anything to go by, it’s going to be a milestone moment for the Midlands cyber community!
If you’re a student, a job seeker, a career changer, or someone curious about cybersecurity… Get involved.
This is where the opportunities are growing.
This is where the connections are forming.
This is where the future is being built.
Yesterday proved something powerful.
Cyber in the Midlands isn’t just growing…it’s thriving.
And it’s being shaped by the people who show up, collaborate, and care.
I’m proud to be part of it. And I can’t wait to see what September brings.
